Big family cousin session | Nashville family photographer

Lots of my clients have been hosting family members in town recently, as evidenced by several inquiries for big family sessions. Tomorrow, I’m meeting a group of 10. Two nights ago, I met with three sisters and their seven children. One of the sisters and her two daughters are ECP regulars, and they arranged for the session while the rest of the family was visiting from out of state. The seven cousins were the stars of the show, and it was great!  The age range of this group was fun, and it definitely worked to our advantage that we had older cousins who were very comfortable holding their youngest cousin.  I also let the older cousins help me make silly faces at the younger cousins so we’d get some genuine smiles.  It worked!

For those who are curious, I mentally approach these session types as if they are multiple half sessions– each family unit is photographed, each child is individually photographed, and the whole group is photographed at a minimum. I usually also throw in some fun combinations, depending on who is present– maybe an all-girls photo or grandparents with grandkids. Maybe it’s a chance for the grandparents to have photos with their adult children.  Maybe the grandparents or parents want a photo to themselves!  I allot up to 90 minutes for sessions like this, so we take time to make sure we’ve really documented what is important to each family.  Interested in pricing or booking your own big family session?  Email me using the contact tab above.
